Here's the trailer for the upcoming film Lincoln:

Good Decisions

Well, watch the trailer. Are you kidding me? Steven Spielberg. Daniel Day Lewis. The trailer alone is an inspirational two minutes, specifically because Day Lewis has transformed completely into Abraham  Lincoln. He doesn't look like Day Lewis. He doesn't sound like Day Lewis (history says Lincoln didn't have the low, booming register we assume he did). If anything, he is certainly the current frontrunner for the Oscar. In addition, the trailer doesn't even mention the rest of the cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Strahtairn, Jackie Earle Haley, John Hawkes, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, Jared Harris, and Lee Pace are also in the film.

Bad Decisions

While the trailer is good, the collaboration between Spielberg and composer John Williams has become a bit preachy for me. For example, doesn't this trailer seem eerily similar to War Horse's? Though it's an important topic, it makes it look like it could be a bit overstuffed with sentiment.

Jury Still Out

Well, no actor has ever won an Oscar for a Steven Spielberg film. Think about that - all the wonderful films he's made and nobody ever won for acting. Not even Liam Neeson for Schindler's List (lost to Tom Hanks for Philadelphia). And, it's always iffy to cram so many stars into one film, even a sweeping one like this. Oh...and it doesn't look like the President fights any vampires, so that's no fun.
